Julia is an Egyptologist who completed her DPhil in 2020. She holds a BA (Hons) and MA in Ancient History from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Julia’s doctoral thesis was an investigation of the materiality of hieroglyphic personal names and naming practices in ancient Egypt. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Netherlands Institute for the Near East (University of Leiden 2020–2022), researching hieroglyphic graffiti at Saqqara from the late 3rd Millennium BCE. More generally, her research examines veneration and commemorative practices in ancient Egypt and she is interested in graffiti, epigraphic practices, and the materiality of text.
