The 2025-26 Clarendon Council

Francisco Orliacq

Social Secretary

Hi everyone! My name is Fran, and I’m this year’s Social Secretary 😊

I’m a DPhil student in Clinical Medicine at Green Templeton College. I’m a medical doctor from Argentina 🇦🇷, and I hold an MSc in Integrated Immunology from Oxford, where I researched novel rabies vaccines.

My research focuses on how our immune system responds to the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV). You’ve probably heard of it, since about 90–95% of adults worldwide have been infected at some point. Once EBV enters the body, it stays for life, constantly trying to outsmart the immune system (yes, even as you are reading this, your immune system is probably fighting it!)

EBV is best known for causing mononucleosis, but it’s also associated with certain cancers, chronic fatigue, and autoimmune diseases. This is why developing an effective vaccine could have a major impact on global health.

I’ve just joined the University Second Swimming Team 🐬💙 and I also row with my college, GTBC. I love going out dancing and enjoying a good time with friends.

I’m excited to organise a wide range of events that reflect the diversity of our community—from big, lively gatherings to smaller, more relaxed get-togethers—while making the most of everything Oxford has to offer.

Feel free to message me with any questions, and I’d love to hear any event ideas or suggestions you may have!
